FORT LAUDERDALE MAN CONVICTED FOR INTIMIDATING FLIGHT ATTENDANTS

Jacksonville, Florida - Today, a federal trial jury returned a verdict of guilty against Paul Scollo for the crime of intimidating a flight attendant. The maximum penalty Scollo faces is twenty years' imprisonment. U.S. District Judge Henry Lee Adams, Jr., presided over the trial and scheduled sentencing for November 21, 2006.

According to court documents, on May 19, 2006, Scollo was aboard a Southwest flight from Long Island, N.Y., to Ft. Lauderdale. Mr. Scollo assaulted another passenger and was eventually isolated in the last row of the aircraft. A flight attendant was forced to guard Mr. Scollo in the last row while the captain declared an in-flight emergency and diverted the flight to Jacksonville International Airport. The aircraft was met by state and federal law enforcement officers who arrested Mr. Scollo.

The case was investigated by the Federal Air Marshal Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Talbot.
