LARGO MAN INDICTED FOR POSSESSING AND RECEIVING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY Tampa, Florida - United States Attorney Robert E. O'Neill today announced the return of an indictment of Scott Wiegand, a forty-three year old resident of Largo, Florida, charging Wiegand with one count of possession of child pornography, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2252(a)(4), and one count of receiving child pornography, in violation of 18 U.S.C. §2252(a)(2). The maximum penalties Wiegand faces if convicted on all counts are 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. According to the indictment, from an unknown date and continuing through February 27, 2007, Wiegand possessed and received numerous items that contained visual images of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct that had traveled in interstate or foreign commerce. An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty. The case was investigated by the FBI's Innocent Images Task Force, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Amanda Riedel. ###
