FBI Promotes Computer On-Line Safety at Pierce Middle School
The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) recently designated March
23, 2007 as a day of national awareness for the Project Safe Childhood
initiative. The DOJ's Project Safe Childhood initiative is a joint effort
of federal, state and local law enforcement, along with community leaders,
designed to protect children from online exploitation and abuse. Led by
the U.S. Attorneys Offices, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state
and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals
who exploit children via the Internet, as well as identify and rescue
victims.
In conjunction with the Project Safe Childhood initiative, the Tampa FBI
Field Office is presenting an Internet Safety program at Pierce Middle
School, 5511 N. Hesperides Avenue, Tampa, Florida 33604. The FBI's Innocent
Images Task Force (IITF) will be conducting the presentation for 200 -
7th graders at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 29, 2007. The presentation
is designed to educate children on the dangers of on-line sexual predators.
This program is one example of the numerous community outreach/educational
awareness presentations routinely conducted by the IITF.
The FBI's IITF is a multi-agency task force comprised of the FBI, Hillsborough
County Sheriff's Office, Lakeland Police Department, Largo Police Department,
Manatee County Sheriff's Office and the United States Probation Office.
The Task Force is an intelligence driven, proactive investigative initiative
to combat the proliferation of child pornography and child sexual exploitation
facilitated through the Internet.
