FBI Confirms Statement Regarding Investigation of Two Tampa College Students

TAMPA, FL—Special Agent in Charge Steven E. Ibison issued this release today for the purposes of reiterating comments made in the August 15, 2007 FBI statement, and to address subsequent reports by some members of the media.

The August 15 press release never stated FBI was questioning any related arrests or charges in this matter.  However, the release did relate that the FBI continues to work closely with other law enforcement agencies and was collecting the facts surrounding this situation.  The August 15 statement was clear about the FBI’s investigation being in the initial stages.  Due to the preliminary nature of the situation, the FBI asked members of the media to reserve making any definitive conclusions at this time.  Lastly, the August 15 statement reminded everyone of the ongoing investigation and that these individuals, as with any ongoing investigation, are considered innocent until proven guilty.
