FBI INVESTIGATING PASSENGER WITH SUSPICIOUS ITEMS AT ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Orlando, Florida – Special Agent in Charge Steven E. Ibison today advised FBI agents responded to the Orlando International Airport this afternoon, after receiving a report of a passenger with suspicious items in his checked baggage. Kevin Brown, a Jamaican national, approximately 32 years old, planned to board Air Jamaica flight 80 to Jamaica, until he was questioned by airport authorities.

A subsequent search of Brown’s checked baggage by airport authorities revealed two galvanized pipes, end caps, two small containers containing BBs, batteries, two containers with an unknown liquid, laptop, and bomb making literature.

FBI has initiated an investigation and is working with representatives from the Orlando Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Orlando Fire Department Bomb Squad, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Federal Air Marshal Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Brown was arrested by the FBI this evening in connection with United States Code Title 49, Section 46505 – Carrying a weapon or explosive on an aircraft. Brown will appear at his initial appearance at the Federal Court House in Orlando on April 2, 2008. Initial record checks indicated Brown was legally in the United States.

Anyone with information about this matter should contact the FBI Tampa Field Office at 813/253-1000.
